BIOGRAPHY
Aaron is a storyteller in many different formats including documentary, drama, comedy, satire and animation, among others. Driven by an intense curiosity and desire to take on new challenges, he has worked as a director, writer, producer and editor. Aaron is most passionate about stories that can advance social, political and humanitarian causes and perspectives...or at least make people laugh. |
This commitment to exploring new ideas has garnered critical praise including a nomination for Outstanding Motion Picture Producer of the Year by the Producers Guild of America in 2013 for his work directing and producing the feature documentary A People Uncounted. This first feature documentary as a director explores the untold history of the Roma in the Holocaust and their ongoing struggle for human rights—which Now Magazine gave four N’s and called “emotionally charged,” and The Village Voice called “profoundly unsettling and deeply moving.”
He also co-wrote and produced the critically acclaimed Sleeping Giant, which was nominated for the 2016 Canadian Screen Award for Best Feature Film, and played in TIFF Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival following a successful premiere in the Critics Week program at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Aaron has explored writing and directing animation as co-creator of Inc’d, a satirical comedy set in the near future about the consequences of unchecked corporate power and a ragtag alliance from the 99% who try to make a difference. A four-part miniseries pilot of Inc’d is set to debut online soon.
Aaron directed the short film Unlicensed, which was written by Brynn Byrne and produced by Sarah Jackson—their first collaboration through the production company the trio co-founded called Late Bloom Media.
Aaron co-hosts and co-produces the podcast That Was a Show? with Brynn Byrne and Andrew "Barry" Helmer. This first foray into the audio medium is about failed or forgotten sitcoms from the 80s and 90s.
Aaron studied film production at the School of Image Arts at X University in Toronto. It was there that Aaron developed a keen desire for collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach to filmmaking. He received a number of awards for his academic and creative work including the Norman Jewison Award and the Harvey Hart Directing Award. He is a founding board-member of the Image Arts Alumni Association.
